DSS Uncovers Staggering Stash of Currency and Documents in Emefiele's Lagos Mansion

In a groundbreaking operation, the Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully seized and removed a staggering haul of 18 large Ghana-must-go bags filled with money and crucial documents from the lavish home of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). This astonishing revelation comes after an extensive day-long search of Emefiele's property in Lagos.

Emefiele, who has been in DSS custody for the past eight days since his arrest on June 10, may face an extended stay as investigations into his activities during his tenure at the apex bank are far from concluded. Recently, the DSS obtained a court order permitting the detention of the former CBN chief for three weeks, and there are indications that the confinement period could be further extended.

The DSS, acting on this information, relocated Emefiele from their custody in Abuja to Lagos, where his residence was thoroughly combed by operatives. Upon concluding the search, a total of 18 sizeable Ghana-must-go bags, containing a substantial amount of currency and crucial documents, were confiscated the following day (Friday).

Emefiele was subsequently transported back to Abuja on Friday afternoon alongside the bags, and investigators have promptly resumed intense questioning, particularly regarding the findings uncovered.

Furthermore, it has been discovered that the secret police have launched a manhunt for Emefiele's personal assistant, who is believed to hold significant information linked to the ongoing investigation. This individual's cooperation is crucial in unraveling Emefiele's hidden assets and wealth, both within and outside the country.

President Bola Tinubu took decisive action on June 9 by suspending Emefiele from his position as CBN governor and initiating a comprehensive probe. Following these developments, the DSS promptly apprehended Emefiele for further investigation.
