President Bola Tinubu made a significant change on Monday, replacing all Service Chiefs with new appointments. Among them, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa has taken over as the Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Lucky Irabor.
Christopher Musa's Profile: A Biography
Christopher Gwabin Musa, the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, was born on December 25, 1967, in Sokoto, Nigeria. He hails from Zangon Kataf in Kaduna State. With a background in infantry, he joined the Nigerian Defence Army's 38th Infantry Course and was commissioned on September 21, 1991.
Education and Military Training
Musa's educational journey includes attending Marafa Danbaba Primary School and Model Primary School in Sokoto. He later studied at the Federal Government College in Sokoto and the College of Advanced Studies in Zaria. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Chmn from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1990. Furthermore, he pursued an Advanced Diploma in Security Management from the University of Lagos in 2007-2008 and an MSc in Military Science from the International College of Defence Studies at the National Defence University in Beijing, China, from 2012 to 2013.
Throughout his military career, Musa has participated in various courses, including the Mechanical Transportation Officers Course, Young Officers Course (Infantry), Regimental Signal Officers Course, and the Senior Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College. He also attended leadership training at the US Army War College, completing the Combined Joint Land Component Commander's Course on Leadership in 2017.

Musa's professional journey is adorned with numerous appointments and achievements. He served in various capacities, such as Platoon Commander, Intelligence Officer, Administrative Officer, Commanding Officer, and Deputy Chief of Staff, among others. His notable assignments include being the Commander of the 82 Division Task Force Brigade OP LAST HOLD in the North East, Commander of Sector 3 OP LAFIYA DOLE, and Commander of Sector 3 in the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Tchad Region.
